Fry's is finally going to get my fictitious persona to sign up for their online coupons this week. Oh, really, John? Why's that? Well, it's pretty simple, Dear Readers, it's all about cottage cheese and sour cream.
In case you haven't noticed, cottage cheese is VERY expensive. Sometimes it's so expensive it makes me want to faint. Sometimes it's so expensive I have to look the other way when I pass it in the reefer case. Generally, it's so expensive it's embarrassing.
Well, this week, Fry's has Kroger brand sour cream and cottage cheese (16 oz) for $1.25 each. That's a great price BUT it gets better. If you give in and sign up for Fry's online gig, you get yet another 25 cents off. Sooo....since we usually buy eight of these puppies when they are sale, that's a $2 savings and that alone makes it worth my time to sign up for the online thingie.
Fry's eggs are a buck a dozen. If you don't have a source for local eggs, a buck is about as cheap as store eggs get these days. Eggs are more expensive due to the Midwestern drought last summer. The drop in corn and soybean yields caused chicken feed prices to skyrocket.
Blueberries are 99 cents for six ounces. What a nice little luxury blueberries are! Cereals smile when topped with blueberries.
CHICKEN. We have become very fond of Fry's chicken tenders. Talk to Susun about them and she will fill you in on the "whys and wherefores." Ayway, this week, Fry's has "Buy One, Get TWO free." As you know, we have a low opinion of all this "Indian Jewelry Half Off" stuff but typically the BOG2 is a decent deal for the chicken tenders. It should bring the net price of a tray pack down around $3, maybe less. we generally buy four at a time so this time around we will buy two and get four free, maybe more if the price is truly right.
T-Bone or not T-Bone? We don't buy steaks. Period. Every time we do we regret it. But usually once every year or two, we succumb to the temptation to buy some t-bone steaks. Usually what happens is we overcook them and they are destroyed and we have wasted our money. Then we swear we will never buy them again. Meanwhile, a year or two passes and we forget about the last time we destroyed the steaks.
That's what is happening right now. Fry's has 50% off on T-Bones. IF (and that's a HUGE "IF") the PPS (that's price per steak) is LESS than $3.50 each, we "might" (and that's a HUGE "Might") buy a pack. We have to humbled once again and maybe it wouldn't cost too much to destroy another package of steaks so we won't have to worry about buying them for another couple of years.
More Cheesy Stuff--Kraft Cheese is $2.50 each but the online coupon thingie will drop it to $2.00 each. Kraft makes an awesome Italian Blend cheese that's well worth two bucks a bag.
Chicken of the Sea canned tuna for 59 cents. We will buy ONE can of this stuff and then take it out in the parking lot and open it up to check it out. If it looks like it's been run through a paper shredder, we'll yawn and move on. If it actually looks like real chunk tuna, we'll go back inside and buy a case of it. Ya just never know with Chicken of the Sea tuna. It can be the worst of the worst or it can be very good. Ya just have to check it out BEFORE buying more than one can. The trick to this is to remember to take the can opener on the shopping trip!
Kroger vegetables are still a buck a bag. They're great. We love 'em.
Ritz crackers with an online coupon at $2 a box. This is their lowest price and well worth it. There are four tubes of crackers in a box so that means each tube is 50 cents. Split a tube between two of us and what a great snack for a quarter!
There's nothing in produce except mushrooms for a buck fifty a package. That's certainly nothing to make a special trip to Fry's for but IF you are doing a dish that needs fresh mushrooms, this would be the best place to buy them this week. Somebody almost always has them on sale each week--it kind of rotates. Fry's has the best mushroom price this week.
We'll let ya know how it goes with the whole online signup thingie.
