There's no deal as HOT as last week's asparagus in this week's Basha's ad. Dang. In fact, the ad is downright boring this week. In fact, we don't see anything at all to write about.
Oh, come on, John--write about SOMETHING, will ya? OK, there are Braeburn apples for 69 cents a pound. In cae you didn't know this, last fall was a bumper crop of Washington State apples. As the winter season turns to spring, apples prices are going to remain low and get even lower. The Washington State warehouses are BUGLING with apples and the producers are going to get nervous as they enter the 2013 growing season. However, we don't expect to see decent apples selling for much less than this price in "normal" stores. Food City is an exception.
Basha's drinking water is on sale for $2.37 a case. We've been meaning to buy a case of the half liter bottle so we will pick up one this week.
Boneless pork chops are $2.49 a pound. Sometimes Basha's sells decent pork chops and sometimes they don't. Sometimes the package is far too big. It's worth looking at.
Boneless Pork Country Style Ribs for $1.99 a pound. Typically, these ribs are FULL of fat and gristle and you can cook them for a week and they are still inedible. However, every now and then, a fluke happens and Basha's has decent ribs. You just have to go look at them to tell. If the fat/gristle ratio is low, this stuff makes great ground pork. No, Basha's will NOT grind the ribs for you. You have to have your own grinder to do that. The nice thing about grinding your own pork is that you know what's in it and what it was before it got ground up.
Basha's Friday-Sunday sale has small avocados for 33 cents. Most of the time these pathetic little things are very overripe and we wouldn't eat them if they were free. Sometimes they seem smaller than a walnut. However, on occasion these little guys can be an OK deal. You just have to see 'em to know 'em.
And, finally--Tillamook 8 oz. cheese is $2. This is still a high price for cheese--EXCEPT is you are looking at the Tillamook Italian Blend cheese. It's well worth "paying up" for.
Well, that's it for Basha's. As we said, nothing much to write about.
