Basha's followup

As you can see below, we scurried to Camp Verde Basha's to score some awesome asparagus.  Two of the weekly ad deals we hoped to buy didn't happen.  The top sirloin steak was in such a huge package, it wasn't worth it.  The packages were running $12-$16.  Not only that but the meat itself looked worthless--very fatty and very strange looking for top sirloin steak.  I doubt we would have bought any even if the packages would have been smaller.  It certainly didn't look like any top sirloin I've ever seen before.

The Hunt's ketchup billed as being the one with "no high fructose corn syrup" was a classic bait-and-switch bit of advertising.  Such ketchup is nowhere to be found on the shelves.  The ketchup selling for a buck a bottle is the version filled with worthless HFCS.  No way, no how would we buy that ketchup--it's an insult to the ketchup industry to sell that stuff.

There really wasn't much to mess with in Camp Verde Basha's yesterday.  We did have to laugh at our receipt.  It says we spent $8 and saved $26.  Those are "smoke & mirrors" numbers, folks.  The reason the savings looks abnormally large is that Basha's priced the asparagus at $6 a pound so it makes it look like you are saving gobs of money.  Safeway is selling asparagus at $3 a pound and that's about the normal price so our actual savings yesterday was more like $14 instead of $26.
