High Fructose Corn Syrup is banned from our home. Banned from our lives. Banned! But the trouble is we have to be ever vigilant to keep the dastardly stuff out of our pantry. We have to read every label, scan ever container, always on the lookout for the insidious plague of High Fructose Corn Syrup.
Food makers put into seemingly EVERYTHING! We have even found HFCS in vinegar! You simply wouldn't believe how pervasive HFCS is in the food industry. To call it a plague is a colossal understatement.
Take an unassuming condiment like ketchup. Guess what? Practically EVERY ketchup on the shelf is filled to the brim with HFCS. Apparently, it's a whole lot easier to make ketchup with HFCS than it is real sugar. So, naturally, the food makers folow the path of least resistance and pack ketchup with train car tanker loads of HFCS. It's disgusting.
Luckily, there are a very few alternatifve for ketchup and we've found one we like. It sells for less than $2 at Kroger stores such as Fry's, Fred Meyer and the rest of the Kroger chain. For people who won't buy ketchup unless it's a dollar a bottle, fuggetaboutit. You're going to be swilling HFCS. But if you're willing to pay double, you can get a real decent ketchup that's totally free of the dreaded ingredient.
We might begin to feature HFCS-free stuff here. And we might also begin to make fun to the stupid, crazy places where food makers stuff people full of HFCS.
