I really had to try hard to find something interesting in the Albertson's ad this week. I happened to see a store coupon I initially overlooked and that's the only thing that "might get me to set foot into the place. The coupon is for $1.99 on Breyer's ice cream. Breyer's makes a great low carb ice cream in both vanilla and chocolate flavor. Smith's once carried both flavors but now only carries vanilla. If Albertson's has the chocolate flavor, we will actually buy it. There's one other thing we will check while we are there--Wish Bone salad dressing. If you buy ten items of certain things this week at Albertson's, you get them for El Cheap-O. The Wishbones will calc to a buck a bottle. We aren't real fans of salad dressing full of chemicals we can't pronounce. However, there is ONE such dressing we will buy and it's the Asian variety. Each salad dressing maker toys with an Asian blend. Such blends come and go. Kroger had a great one but they discontinued it. As we recall, the Wish Bone Asian is pretty good but only if it's on sale. Wishbone isn't remotely worth paying regular retail for. If they have the Asian, we will buy 2 or 3 and then make up the other ten items on La Victoria enchilada sauce and salsa, as well as snagging a couple of bottle of ragu spaghetti sauce. If they don't have the Asian stuff, we won't bother.
Smith's is a real dud this week. Not much to discuss. You can get a two pound bag of shredded Kroger cheese for five bucks. That's a real good deal. Roma tomatoes are a buck a pound. WINCO's Romas lately have looked real sickly and I wouldn't touch 'em even if they were free. If Smith's Romas look OK, we will pick up a pound or two. There's nothing else to mention.
I do have a question that I will seek to answer sometime maybe soon. This week Smith's is touting Bragg Organic Apple Cider Vinegar for $4 a QUART! That makes this product calc to $16 a GALLON!
Heinz, by comparison of $4.37 a gallon and the WINCO off brand is just over $3. Now some stuff I can see would be better if it was organic, but vinegar? I hope to study just how paying $16 a gallon for organic vinegar could be a deal. I can't imagine that the organic vinegar is any better than regular vinegar. It's all basically an acid and a very strong acid at that. Water and acid, that's it. Well, this is a question we will answer someday when we have way too much time on our hands or whenever it rains all day again, whichever comes first.
There's nothing much happening at WINCO. The only item worth mentioning is the green pepper. It's selling for 38 cents each and it's grown in California, not Mexico. A US green pepper at that price level is pretty rare.
Have a great day & CHEERS! jp
